BACKGROUND: The perforator flap has garnered significant interest since its inception due to its advantage of not needing a vascular network at the deep fascial level. Perforator flaps are commonly utilized in different flap transplant surgeries, and the thigh flap is presently the most widely used perforator flap. Is it possible for the calf to replace the thigh as a more suitable site for harvesting materials? Currently, there is a lack of relevant anatomical research. This study aims to address this question from an anatomical and imaging perspective. METHODS: This study used cadavers to observe the branches and courses of perforators on the calf and the distribution of skin branches using microdissection techniques, digital X-ray photography, and micro-computed tomography techniques. RESULTS: The perforators had three main branches: the vertical cutaneous branch, the oblique cutaneous branch, and the superficial fascial branch. The superficial fascial branch traveled in the superficial fascia and connected with the nearby perforators. The vertical and oblique cutaneous branches entered the subdermal layer and connected with each other to create the subdermal vascular network. CONCLUSIONS: We observed an intact calf cutaneous branch chain between the cutaneous nerve and the perforator of the infrapopliteal main artery at the superficial vein site. Utilizing this anatomical structure, the calfskin branch has the potential to serve as a substitute for thigh skin flap transplantation and may be applied to perforator flap transplantation in more locations.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a globally prevalent respiratory disease, and programmed cell death plays a pivotal role in the development of COPD. Disulfidptosis is a newly discovered type of cell death that may be associated with the progression of COPD. However, the expression and role of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) in COPD remain unclear. METHODS: The expression of DRGs was identified by analyzing RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data in COPD. Further, COPD patients were classified into two subtypes by unsupervised cluster analysis to reveal their differences in gene expression and immune infiltration. Meanwhile, hub genes associated with disulfidptosis were screened by weighted gene co-expression network analysis. Subsequently, the hub genes were validated experimentally in cells and animals. In addition, we screened potential therapeutic drugs through the hub genes. RESULTS: We identified two distinct molecular clusters and observed significant differences in immune cell populations between them. In addition, we screened nine hub genes, and experimental validation showed that CDC71, DOHH, PDAP1, and SLC25A39 were significantly upregulated in cigarette smoke-induced COPD mouse lung tissues and bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) treated with cigarette smoke extract. Finally, we predicted 10 potential small molecule drugs such as Atovaquone, Taurocholic acid, Latamoxef, and Methotrexate. CONCLUSION: We highlighted the strong association between COPD and disulfidptosis, with DRGs demonstrating a discriminative capacity for COPD. Additionally, the expression of certain novel genes, including CDC71, DOHH, PDAP1, and SLC25A39, is linked to COPD and may aid in the diagnosis and assessment of this condition.

Sericin derived from the white cocoon of Bombyx mori has been attracting more attention for its utilization in food, cosmetics, and biomedicine. The potential health benefits of natural carotenoids for humans have also been well-established. Some rare strains of Bombyx mori (B. mori) produce yellow-red cocoons, which endow a potential of natural carotenoid-containing sericin. We hypothesized that natural carotenoid-containing sericin from yellow-red cocoons would exhibit better properties compared with white cocoon sericin. To investigate the physicochemical attributes of natural carotenoid-containing sericin, we bred two silkworm strains from one common ancestor, namely XS7 and XS8, which exhibited different cocoon colors as a result of the inconsistent distribution of lutein and ß-carotene. Compared with white cocoon sericin, the interaction between carotenoids and sericin molecules in carotenoid-containing sericin resulted in a unique fluorescence emission at 530, 564 nm. The incorporation of carotenoids enhanced the antibacterial effect, anti-cancer ability, cytocompatibility, and antioxidant of sericin, suggesting potential wide-ranging applications of natural carotenoid-containing sericin as a biomass material. We also found differences in fluorescence characteristics, antimicrobial effects, anti-cancer ability, and antioxidants between XS7 and XS8 sericin. Our work for the first time suggested a better application potential of natural carotenoid-containing sericin as a biomass material than frequently used white cocoon sericin.

Algae are an entry point for mercury (Hg) into the food web. Bioconcentration of Hg by algae is crucial for its biogeochemical cycling and environmental risk. Herein, considering the cell heterogeneity, we investigated the bioconcentration of coexisting isotope-labeled inorganic (199IHg) and methyl Hg (201MeHg) by six typical freshwater and marine algae using dual-mass single-cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (scICP-MS). First, a universal pretreatment procedure for the scICP-MS analysis of algae was developed. Using the proposed method, the intra- and interspecies heterogeneities and the kinetics of Hg bioconcentration by algae were revealed at the single-cell level. The heterogeneity in the cellular Hg contents is largely related to cell size. The bioconcentration process reached a dynamic equilibrium involving influx/adsorption and efflux/desorption within hours. Algal density is a key factor affecting the distribution of Hg between algae and ambient water. Cellular Hg contents were negatively correlated with algal density, whereas the volume concentration factors almost remained constant. Accordingly, we developed a model based on single-cell analysis that well describes the density-driven effects of Hg bioconcentration by algae. From a novel single-cell perspective, the findings improve our understanding of algal bioconcentration governed by various biological and environmental factors.

AIM: To explore the neuroprotective potential of hyperforin and elucidate its underlying molecular mechanisms involved in its therapeutic effects against vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). METHODS: The active compounds and possible targets of Hypericum perforatum L. that may be effective against VCI were found by network pharmacology in this research. We utilized bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) surgery to induce a VCI mouse model. Morris water maze (MWM) and Y-maze tests were used to assess VCI mice's cognitive abilities following treatment with hyperforin. To evaluate white matter lesions (WMLs), we utilized Luxol fast blue (LFB) stain and immunofluorescence (IF). Neuroinflammation was assessed using IF, western blot (WB), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The effects of hyperforin on microglia were investigated by subjecting the BV2 microglial cell line to oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) stimulation. The expressions of VEGFR2 , p-SRC, SRC, VEGFA, and inflammatory markers including IL-10, IL-1ß, TNF-α, and IL-6 were subsequently assessed. RESULTS: The VEGFR2 /SRC signaling pathway is essential for mediating the protective properties of hyperforin against VCI according to network pharmacology analysis. In vivo findings demonstrated that hyperforin effectively improved BCCAO-induced cognitive impairment. Furthermore, staining results showed that hyperforin attenuated WMLs and reduced microglial activation in VCI mice. The hyperforin treatment group's ELISA results revealed a substantial decrease in IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α levels. According to the results of in vitro experiments, hyperforin decreased the release of pro-inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß) and blocked microglial M1-polarization by modulating the VEGFR2 /SRC signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: Hyperforin effectively modulated microglial M1 polarization and neuroinflammation by inhibiting the VEGFR2 /SRC signaling pathways, thereby ameliorating WMLs and cognitive impairment in VCI mice.

Many studies have focused on the effect of perinatal depression on neurodevelopment among children and adolescents. However, only a few studies have explored this relationship in infants and toddlers with inconsistent results. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the association between perinatal depression and infant and toddler neurodevelopment during the first two postnatal years. Twenty-three studies were included in this meta-analysis. Perinatal depression was associated with poorer cognitive (Cohen's d = -0.19, SE= 0.06, 95% CI = -0.30 to -0.08), language (Cohen's d = -0.24, SE = 0.09, 95% CI = -0.40 to -0.07), and motor (Cohen's d = -0.15, SE = 0.05, 95% CI = -0.26 to -0.05) development. Subgroup analyses showed that the types of maternal depression (prenatal depression vs. postnatal depression), the method of measuring maternal depression (rating scale vs. diagnostic interview), and the time interval between assessment of exposure and outcome had an impact on the observed effect about neurodevelopment of infants and toddlers. In addition, the results of our study pointed to a stronger significant association between prenatal depression and cognitive, language, and motor delays in infants and toddlers, whereas the association between postnatal depression and cognitive, language, and motor delays in infants and toddlers was not statistically significant. In conclusion, this study provided convincing evidence that the perinatal window is a sensitive period for offspring neurodevelopment.

CONTEXT: The community structure of gut microbiota changes during pregnancy, which also affects the synthesis of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). However, the distribution of gut microbiota composition and metabolite SCFA levels are poorly understood in women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART). AIMS: To evaluate the changes in gut microbiota composition and metabolic SCFAs in women who received assisted reproduction treatment. METHODS: Sixty-three pregnant women with spontaneous pregnancy (SP) and nine with ART pregnancy were recruited to provide fecal samples. Gut microbiota abundance and SCFA levels were determined by 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene amplicon sequencing and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). KEY RESULTS: The ART group showed decreased alpha diversity (the species richness or evenness in a sample). The principal coordinates analysis (a method of analysing beta diversity) showed significant difference in gut microbiota between the ART group versus the SP group (unweighted UniFrac distance, R 2 =0.04, P =0.003). Proteobacteria , Blautia and Escherichia-Shigella were enriched in the ART group, whereas the relative abundance of beneficial intestinal bacteria Faecalibacterium was lower than in the SP group. Different modes of conception were associated with several SCFAs (valeric acid (r =-0.280; P =0.017); isocaproic acid (r =-0.330; P =0.005); caproic acid (r =-0.336; P =0.004)). Significantly different SCFAs between the two groups were synchronously associated with the differential gut microbiota. CONCLUSIONS: The diversity and abundance of gut microbiota and the levels of SCFAs in women undergoing ART decreased. IMPLICATIONS: The application of ART shaped the microbial composition and metabolism, which may provide critical information for understanding the biological changes that occur in women with assisted reproduction.

AIMS: To investigate the impact of pregnancy with combined hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on fetal growth and adverse perinatal outcomes. METHODS: All the pregnant women with HBV infection and/or GDM who delivered at Women's Hospital, Zhejiang University between January 2015, and September 2022 were included. A total of 1633 pregnant women were recruited in the final analysis, including 409 women with HBV infection and GDM, 396 with HBV infection only, 430 with GDM only, and 398 without HBV infection and GDM. Linear and logistic regression models were used to study the impact of pregnancy with combined HBV infection and GDM on fetal growth and adverse perinatal outcomes. RESULTS: Pregnancy with combined HBV infection and GDM was associated with increased Z-scores on primary fetal ultrasound parameters and significantly increased the risk of fetal femur length overgrowth (OR: 2.88, 95 % CI: 1.13 âˆ¼ 7.35), placental abruption (OR: 3.64, 95 % CI: 1.18 âˆ¼ 11.22), and macrosomia (OR: 4.19, 95 % CI: 1.66 âˆ¼ 10.56) compared to pregnancy without HBV infection and GDM. CONCLUSIONS: Both maternal HBV infection and GDM are independently associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. Their combination further increases the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the levels and predictors of body image dissatisfaction among women at different stages of pregnancy. DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional study design. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: A total of 863 Chinese pregnant women were recruited from a tertiary hospital via a convenience sampling method. MEASUREMENT AND FINDINGS: Eligible participants completed a demographic questionnaire and self-reported measures of body image dissatisfaction, pregnancy-related anxiety, prenatal depression, and appearance comparison. Results showed no statistical difference in body image dissatisfaction levels among early-mid pregnancy (47.6 ± 6.17), late-mid pregnancy (47.3 ± 7.56), and late pregnancy stages (48.4 ± 6.22). The generalized linear model showed that gestational weight gain, pregnancy-related anxiety, own/family's perception of pregnancy weight, and current ideal weight change were predictors of body image dissatisfaction in the early-mid pregnancy stage. In addition, pre-pregnancy BMI, appearance comparison, own /family's perception of pregnancy weight, current ideal weight change, and overeating during pregnancy significantly predicted body image dissatisfaction in the late-mid pregnancy stage. Predictors of body image dissatisfaction in the late pregnancy stage comprised planned pregnancy, pre-pregnancy eating disorders, own perception of pregnancy weight, current ideal weight change, pregnancy-related anxiety, and prenatal depression. KEY CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE: The findings suggest that predictors of body image dissatisfaction differed according to pregnancy stage. Self-perception of pregnancy weight was primary predictor of body image dissatisfaction. Healthcare professionals are recommended to provide prenatal health education to reduce own/family's negative perception of pregnancy weight, so as to alleviate the body image dissatisfaction level of pregnant women.

Background: The gut microbiota may affect mood through the microbiota-gut-brain axis. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the gut microbiota and its metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), on prenatal depression and to determine the role of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) on prenatal depression in association with the gut microbiota and its metabolites (i.e. SCFAs). Methods: Eighty-six pregnant women in the third trimester were recruited. Prenatal depression was determined by a score of 10 via the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale. Demographic data, stool, and blood samples were collected. The gut microbiota and its metabolites SCFAs were determined by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. Plasma 5-HT was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. Results: After controlling relevant covariates, our results found the higher the abundance of Candidatus_Soleaferrea, the lower the risk of prenatal depression; the higher the concentration of propanoic acid, the higher risk of prenatal depression. Our results also found the lower the plasma 5-HT, the higher the risk of prenatal depression, and 5-HT was related to unclassified_c_Clostridia and NK4A214_group. However, results of this study did not support the moderating effect of plasma 5-HT on the association of Candidatus_Soleaferrea or propionic acid with prenatal depression. Conclusions: Results of this study supported that changes in certain gut microbiota, SCFAs, and plasma 5-HT during pregnancy were associated with prenatal depression. This finding provides new ideas for interventions based on diet or probiotics to regulate mood during pregnancy.

ABSTRACT: Chronic pain is a primary health problem in people living with HIV (PWH). However, there is limited research regarding chronic pain among PWH in Chinese health care settings. To investigate biopsychosocial factors of chronic pain severity, we conducted a cross-sectional study in Shenzhen, China. Chronic pain was defined as pain lasting for more than three months. Pain intensity was measured using the numeric rating scale (NRS). Among 123 hospitalized PWH, 78.86% of participants had mild pain and 21.14% had moderate-severe pain. Multiple logistic regression results indicated that PWH in moderate-severe pain group were more likely to have higher levels of interleukin [IL]-6 (OR = 1.034, 95% CI: 1.003-1.066, p = .029) and anxiety (OR = 1.334, 95% CI: 1.071-1.662, p = .010) than those in the mild chronic pain group. Targeted pain management interventions should be explored in clinical practices and future studies regarding PWH with high levels of IL-6 and anxiety.

Objective: This meta-analysis aims to assess the clinical effectiveness of the combination therapy involving Teriparatide (TPTD) and Denosumab (DEN) in managing postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO). The findings provide valuable insights into clinical treatment decisions. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, and other relevant databases to gather literature concerning the treatment of PMO with TPTD and DEN. After a thorough screening, we selected and analyzed the final literature set. Information relevant to the study was extracted, and a quality assessment was carried out. The meta-analysis utilized RevMan 5.3 software to evaluate the impact of DEN combined with TPTD on parameters such as bone mineral density (BMD), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (TRACP-5b), fracture incidence, and adverse reactions in PMO patients. Results: After the screening process, a total of 513 patients were studied across 8 studies. Among these, 259 patients received treatment involving DEN combined with TPTD (the research group), while 254 patients were subjected to different treatment regimens (the control group). As per the Cochrane Handbook's quality assessment, all included literature exhibited high overall quality. The meta-analysis demonstrated that the research group exhibited significantly higher BMD than the control group, lower TRACP-5b levels and fracture incidence (P < .05). However, the two groups had no evident difference in adverse reaction incidence (P > .05). Conclusions: The combined treatment of DEN and TPTD exhibits notable efficacy in managing PMO, warranting its promotion and use in clinical practice.

Cold is an important environmental stress affecting the growth, productivity, and geographic distribution of tree species. Oaks are important for environmental conservation and wood supplies. Oak metabolites respond to low temperatures (LTs). In this study, the physiological and metabolic responses of two oak species to cold stress were investigated and compared. The field observations and physiological responses showed that Quercus wutaishanica was more cold-tolerant than Q. acutissima. After frost, the one-year-old twigs of Q. wutaishanica had higher survival rates, accumulated more soluble sugar and protein, and exhibited higher superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity than those of Q. acutissima. Untargeted metabolomics identified 102 and 78 differentially accumulated metabolites in Q. acutissima and Q. wutaishanica, respectively, when the leaves were subjected to LTs (4 °C for 24 h). The carbohydrate and flavonoid metabolites contributed to the cold tolerance of both oak species. Succinate, an intermediate in the citric acid cycle, was significantly inhibited by LTs, a potential energy conservation strategy. Unlike Q. acutissima, Q. wutaishanica underwent metabolic reprogramming that significantly increased the contents of phosphatidylcholine, gallic acid, oxidized glutathione, shikimate, and phenylpyruvate under LTs. Our data provide a reference for characterizing the mechanisms involved in the response of oak species to cold temperatures and enhancing the cold tolerance of forest trees.

Edible insects have great potential for producing protein-rich ingredients. This study aimed to investigate the effects of protein aggregation induced by NaCl (0-1 M) and temperature (65-95 °C) on gelation of Antheraea pernyi (A. pernyi) pupa raw powder. No thermal aggregates were observed at low temperature (65 °C), on the basis of there being no significant enhancement in turbidity and particle size (P > 0.05), regardless of NaCl concentrations. At elevated temperatures (75-95 °C), protein solutions exhibited significantly higher turbidity and particle size (P < 0.05), accompanied by an initial rise in surface hydrophobicity followed by a decline, alongside declining sulfhydryl. This marks the beginning of massive thermal aggregation driven by molecular forces. In addition, covalent (disulfide bonds) and non-covalent (hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions, and hydrophobicity) forces were influenced by NaCl, leading to variability in the protein aggregation and gelation. Correlation analysis indicates that the higher protein aggregation induced by ions was beneficial to the construction of more compact three-dimensional structures, as well as to the rheology, texture, and water-holding capacity of A. pernyi pupa gels. However, excessive salt ions destroyed the gel structure. Our findings will aid the use of A. pernyi pupae as textural ingredients in formula foods.

EsophageaL squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common and lethal tumors, however, its underlying molecular mechanisms are not completely understood and new therapeutic targets are needed. Here, we found that the transcription factor basonuclin 1 (BNC1) was significantly upregulated and closely related to the differentiation and metastasis of ESCC. Furthermore, BNC1, LINC01305, and G-protein pathway suppressor 1 (GPS1) had significant oncogenic roles in ESCC. In addition, in vivo experiments showed that knockdown of BNC1 indeed significantly inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of ESCC. We also revealed the molecular mechanism by which LINC01305 recruits BNC1 to the promoter of GPS1, and then GPS1 could mediate the JNK signaling pathway to promote the proliferation and metastases of ESCC. Taken together, we discovered the novel molecular mechanism by which LINC01305/BNC1 upregulates GPS1 expression to promote the development of ESCC, providing a new therapeutic target for ESCC.

Particulate matter (PM) is an important component of air pollutants and is associated with various health risks. However, the impact of PM on toddlers' gut microbiota is rarely investigated. This study aimed to assess the cumulative and lagged effects of varying-sized PMs on toddlers' gut microbiota. We collected demographic information, stool samples, and exposure to PM from 36 toddlers aged 2-3 years. The toddlers were divided into warm season group and cooler season group according to the collection time of stool samples. The gut microbiota was processed and analyzed using 16S rRNA V3-V4 gene regions. The concentration of PM was calculated using China High Air Pollutants (CHAP) database. To assess the mixed effects of varying-sized PM, multiple-PM models were utilized. There were significant differences between the community composition, α- and ß-diversity between two groups. In multiple-PM models, there was a significant effect of weight quantile sum (PM1, PM2.5, and PM10) on α-diversity indices. In weight quantile sum models, after adjusting for a priori confounders, we found a negative effect of weight quantile sum on Enterococcus (ß = -0.134, 95% CI -0.263 to -0.006), positive effects of weight quantile sum on unclassified_f__Ruminococcaceae (ß = 0.247, 95% CI 0.102 to 0.393), Ruminococcus_1 (ß = 0.444, 95% CI 0.238 to 0.650), unclassified_f__Lachnospiraceae (ß = 0.278, 95% CI 0.099 to 0.458), and Family_XIII_AD_3011_group (ß = 0.254, 95% CI 0.086 to 0.422) in WSG and CSG. In lagged weight quantile sum models, the correlation between lag time PM levels and the gut microbiota showed seasonal trends, and weights of PM changed with lag periods. This is the first study to highlight that cumulative and lagged effects of PMs synergistically affect the diversities (α- and ß-diversity) and abundance of the gut microbiota in toddlers. Further research is needed to explore the mediating mechanism of varying-sized PMs exposure on the gut microbiota in toddlers.

Infant sleep problems are prevalent and have a negative impact on infant growth and development, maternal sleep, and maternal mood. The effects of psychosocial sleep interventions on infant sleep and maternal sleep and mood are unclear. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of psychosocial sleep interventions on improving infant sleep, including nocturnal total sleep time, daytime total sleep, total sleep time, night wakings, and maternal sleep and mood problems (ie, depression and fatigue). We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, EBSCO, OpenGrey, DeepBlue, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases. We focused on randomized controlled trials examining the effectiveness of psychosocial sleep interventions on infant sleep. The study was preregistered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42022301654). Thirteen studies from 5889 articles were included in the review, which found that psychosocial sleep interventions improved infant nocturnal total sleep time (0.28 [0.04-0.52], p < 0.05, I2 = 83.9%) and maternal depression (-0.10 [-0.28 to -0.08], p < 0.05, I2 = 8.7%). To test and explore heterogeneity, we used the I2 statistic, influence analysis, subgroup analyses, and subgroup meta-analyses. Funnel plots and Egger's tests revealed no evidence of publication bias. Psychosocial sleep interventions improved infant nocturnal total sleep time and maternal depression. Future research should include more randomized controlled trials examining the effect of psychosocial sleep interventions on the improvement of maternal sleep and fatigue.

BACKGROUND: Ferritin light chain (FTL) is involved in tumor progression, but the specific molecular processes by which FTL affects the development of breast cancer (BRCA) have remained unknown. In this research, the clinicopathological significance of FTL overexpression in BRCA was investigated. METHODS: To investigate the role of FTL in BRCA, we utilized multiple online databases to analyse FTL expression levels in BRCA. Next, we reviewed the expression and localization of the FTL protein in BRCA by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western blot (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF) staining. To assess the impact of FTL on patient prognosis, we conducted Kaplan‒Meier, univariate and multivariate survival analyses. The relationship between FTL and immune infiltration in BRCA was also analysed in the TISCH and SangerBox databases. MTT, malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) assays were carried out to investigate the molecular mechanisms of FTL action in BRCA cells. RESULTS: FTL was significantly upregulated in BRCA compared to normal tissues. Its expression significantly linked to histological grade (P = 0.038), PR expression (P = 0.021), Her2 expression (P = 0.012) and Ki-67 expression (P = 0.040) in patients with BRCA. Furthermore, the expression of the FTL protein was higher in the BRCA cell lines than in the normal breast cells and mainly localized in the cytoplasm. Compared to patients with a low level of FTL expression, patients with a high level of FTL expression showed lower overall survival (OS). More convincingly, univariate and multivariate statistical analyses revealed that FTL expression (P = 0.000), ER expression (P = 0.036) and Her2 expression (P = 0.028) were meaningful independent prognostic factors in patients with BRCA. FTL was associated with immune infiltration in BRCA. Functional experiments further revealed that FTL knockdown inhibited the capacity of proliferation and increased the level of oxidative stress in BRCA cells. CONCLUSIONS: Overexpression of FTL was associated with the progression of BRCA. FTL overexpression may become a biomarker for the evaluation of poor prognosis in patients with BRCA.

Background: During the prevalence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), little was known about the knowledge, attitudes, practices (KAP) about COVID-19 and psychological status of college students in minority areas. This study aimed to evaluate the KAP of college students in minority areas of China toward COVID-19 and to provide a scientific basis for health education and policy formulation. Methods: From October 28th to November 6th, 2021, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 5,272 college students to examine KAP and its effects on mental health. Results: Regarding COVID-19 knowledge, the overall awareness rate was 24.11% (1,271). Regarding health attitudes, most students had positive attitudes about COVID-19 prevention and control (94.95%), and females had higher positive attitudes than males (OR: 1.920; CI: 1.494-2.469). Regarding preventive behaviors, more than half of the students took preventive measures (53.48%), and freshmen had the highest health behavior scores. In terms of psychological status, there were fewer females with depression and stress than males. Conclusion: College students in minority areas have positive health attitudes; however, their knowledge of COVID-19 prevention and control is low. Moreover, their precautionary behaviors are insufficient, and they have many negative emotions.

Background and purpose: Corpus callosum (CC) infarction is an extremely rare subtype of cerebral ischemic stroke, however, the symptoms of cognitive impairment often fail to attract early attention of patients, which seriously affects the long-term prognosis, such as high mortality, personality changes, mood disorders, psychotic reactions, financial burden and so on. This study seeks to develop and validate models for early predicting the risk of subjective cognitive decline (SCD) after CC infarction by machine learning (ML) algorithms. Methods: This is a prospective study that enrolled 213 (only 3.7%) CC infarction patients from a nine-year cohort comprising 8,555 patients with acute ischemic stroke. Telephone follow-up surveys were carried out for the patients with definite diagnosis of CC infarction one-year after disease onset, and SCD was identified by Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) questionnaire. Based on the significant features selected by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), seven ML models including Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Logistic Regression (LR), Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost), Gaussian Naïve Bayes (GNB), Complement Naïve Bayes (CNB), and Support vector machine (SVM) were established and their predictive performances were compared by different metrics. Importantly, the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) was also utilized to examine internal behavior of the highest-performance ML classifier. Results: The Logistic Regression (LR)-model performed better than other six ML-models in SCD predictability after the CC infarction, with the area under the receiver characteristic operator curve (AUC) of 77.1% in the validation set. Using LASSO and SHAP analysis, we found that infarction subregions of CC infarction, female, 3-month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score, age, homocysteine, location of angiostenosis, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, pure CC infarction, and number of angiostenosis were the top-nine significant predictors in the order of importance for the output of LR-model. Meanwhile, we identified that infarction subregion of CC, female, 3-month mRS score and pure CC infarction were the factors which independently associated with the cognitive outcome. Conclusion: Our study firstly demonstrated that the LR-model with 9 common variables has the best-performance to predict the risk of post-stroke SCD due to CC infarcton. Particularly, the combination of LR-model and SHAP-explainer could aid in achieving personalized risk prediction and be served as a decision-making tool for early intervention since its poor long-term outcome.
